Terms of Service
Last updated June 14, 2026
These terms cover your use of Pagewell — the desktop app, the free web converter, and this website. By downloading, buying, or using Pagewell, you agree to them.
1. Who we are
Pagewell is made by Pagewell (“we”, “us”). “You” means the person or organisation using Pagewell.
2. Your licence
When you buy Pagewell, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the software:
- One-time purchase. Pay once (USD $49). There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
- Per user, two seats. A standard licence is for one person and may be activated on up to two devices you control (for example a desktop and a laptop). Organisation and multi-seat packs are available separately.
- Free updates within your major version. Maintenance and feature updates to your major version are included. A future major version may be offered as an optional paid upgrade.
- Offline licence. Your licence key is verified on your own device. Keep it safe; treat it like a password.
What you may not do
- Resell, sublicense, rent, or share your licence key beyond your own seats.
- Remove or circumvent the licensing mechanism, or attempt to forge licence keys.
- Redistribute the software as your own product.
Your documents are yours. Anything you create, open, or export with Pagewell belongs to you. We claim no rights over your files.
3. The free Reader & Converter
Pagewell offers a free tier (and a browser-based converter) that can open
.pub and .pwl files and export them to PDF, without editing or
saving. The free tier is provided as a convenience and may change over time, but the
core promise — open your old files and get a PDF — is meant to stay free.
4. Ownership
Pagewell and its underlying technology — including its independent, clean-room
.pub reader, layout engine, and PDF exporter — are our intellectual
property and are licensed, not sold. This agreement gives you a licence to use the
software, not ownership of it.
5. Payment, taxes, and refunds
- Checkout. Purchases are processed by our Merchant-of-Record checkout provider (e.g. Lemon Squeezy or Paddle), acting as the merchant/seller of record. They handle billing and applicable taxes (such as VAT/GST) for your region.
- Refunds. If Pagewell doesn’t work for you, you may request a refund within 14 days of purchase. Refunds and re-issues are processed through the payment provider; contact us and we’ll help.
- Re-issues. Lost your key, or need to move seats to a new machine? Get in touch and we’ll sort it out.
6. Acceptable use
Use Pagewell lawfully. Don’t use it to infringe others’ rights, and don’t use the Pagewell name or brand in a way that implies endorsement or affiliation that doesn’t exist.
7. Trademarks
“Microsoft Publisher” and related names are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Pagewell is an independent product, built with a clean-room reader of public file formats, and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Microsoft. We reference Publisher only to describe compatibility.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
Pagewell is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. While Pagewell aims to reproduce your documents faithfully, it reflows legacy files onto a clean page and may not reproduce every original layout pixel-for-pixel. Always check exported PDFs before sending them to print.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to Pagewell is limited to the amount you paid for your licence in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, or printing costs. Some jurisdictions don’t allow these limits, in which case they apply to the fullest extent permitted.
10. Termination
Your licence lasts until terminated. It ends automatically if you materially breach these terms (for example by pirating or reselling keys). You may stop using Pagewell at any time. Sections on ownership, disclaimers, and liability survive termination.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; we’ll change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to let buyers know. Continuing to use Pagewell after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Thailand, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your own country apply, nothing here removes rights you have under them.
